Hey guys! First of all, I wanna thank ya'll SO MUCH for the ongoing support ya'll have given me--all TEN THOUSAND of you! (Holy shit!) It really means a lot that so many people like what I do and want to help support me on my artistic journey. I really hope my work can help inspire you guys to improve and just be happy with your art/lives in general. Seriously, ya'll are awesome **Edit: So far, I've gotten very few entries. Everyone is basicaly guaranteed multiple prizes. x'D So if you haven't yet entered, do so soon!
To celebrate, I decided to make ya'll WORK! (I know, so thoughtful. I'm the best, honestly. No, no need to thank me, it's my pleasure.)
I'm sure many of you are familiar with my tutorial on how to get good at drawing hands. Well in that tutorial, I proposed a challenge. Whether you took that challenge on (great!) or not, I'm challenging you AGAIN.
WHAT IS THIS CHALLENGE??
This is a challenge that I'm setting to myself and all of you! It centers completely around pushing yourself. It's definitely not going to be easy, but it will be very rewarding if you decide to fight through it. We're gonna be drawing (or rather, sketching) 100 hands. ONE HUNDRED. HANDS.Hands are nutorious for being difficult and an undesireable thing to draw. Let's change that stigma!
WHAT ARE THE RULES??
1. You must be a watcher to participate for prizes, as this is a special thank you to all you guys for the support
Please do not watch me /just/ to have a chance at winning the prizes. If you'd like to participate without winning the prizes, that's fine
2. At the end of this challenge, you MUST have drawn 100 hands. More than 100 is totally acceptable and encouraged!
3. Use at least TWO different mediums to complete this challenge. (Pen, pencil, ink, paint, digital, marker, colored pencil, crayon--get creative!)
4. These are SKETCHES, NOT finished/polished drawings. You should not spend more than five minutes maximum per hand. (Hint, to get yourself more into doing messy sketches, time yourself for a few seconds then slowly lengthen it!) If you feel lost as to where to start, I recommend watching my tutorial
5. For those who want a chance at the prizes, you MUST upload the 100 hands onto Deviantart (scaps is okay!) OR Stash. (Ideally onto one upload if possible.)
EXAMPLE:
WILL THIS HAVE PRIZES?? WUT ARE PRIZES??
Isn't the prize of personal achievement enough for you?! No? Well...okay, I guess some added motivation would be nice, right? All entries will be featured on a separate journal, but I'll add in some juicy stuff for extra incentive.THREE people will be randomly chosen for a one month premium membership or 400!
THREE people will be randomly chosen for a digital sketch like this from Berryzem
ONE person will be randomly chosen for a sketch from SoulCookiezzz
ONE person will be randomly chosen for design services from rurienne
ONE person will be randomly chosen for a page doll from sanslover213
Want to submit prizes of your own? Send me a note with what you're willing to provide!
Want more prizes from me? More will be added if more people participate! Spread the word!
HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE?!?!?!
I want to make sure everyone can set aside enough time to complete this challenge. Be sure to clear your schedule for a few minutes every day and draw some hands!ENDS: FEBRUARY 20 2017
(That's 30 days from now, so if you draw at least 3.333... hands/day, you'll make it!)
I NEED REFS, WHERE DO I FIND?
Using your own hands, a friends/family members, is a great and easy way to get refs! However, if you want a few from me, I have some free to use as well!Patrons over on my Patreon page have additional hand references they are welcome to use. If you're not a patron already, consider becoming one! Supporters like them are incredibly helpful for me and allow me to offer more fun things like this challenge (Plus, I upload loads of tips, tutorials, and resources over there for ya'll ;D)
--
Remember, this is about YOU trying to improve YOURSELF and YOUR drawing skills. Don't worry about accuracy, don't worry if it looks good, don't worry how other people are doing. Believe in yourselves, and I can't wait to see what ya'll create!

Going Dark With Your Art - Adding Contrast
I think all artists either do struggle or have struggled with getting higher contrast in their artworks. Going dark can be pretty scary—What if I mess up? What if I can’t fix it? What if it looks bad? (Insert any number of fearful questioning!) Darker values don’t have to be scary though, they’re your friends, just as much as lighter values are. And learning how to use a wider range of values can give you more control over what kind of artworks you want to and are able to create! In this tutorial I cover ways to help get over that fear of going darker with your art pieces, be you a digital OR traditional artist, I have plenty of tips for you! If getting higher contrast or working with values with your pieces are things you struggle with, this video should (hopefully!) help you improve, or at least lead you down the path of exploration and experimentation! Utilizing pale hues and values certainly can have their place, but knowing when and how to use high contrast can make your
How to Start (and Finish) a Sketchbook
Let's tackle a common problem I've seen, and experienced, amongst us artists--starting, and ultimately finishing, a sketchbook. Let's start with the practical reasons, since for some of you, that may be enough to get the juices flowing and pages going: Money: Sketchbooks aren't always free, and if you're anything like me, seeing those empty pages in a store fills you with that drive that you gotta just buy up a whole bunch more, even though you have a stack already back home. With or without coupons, those prices can add up, and if you're not using them, that's just money flying out the window! Time: As the saying goes, time is money, and wasting that is an invisible, and arguably more costly, expense to you! Time in which you could've spent practicing, improving, and having fun is lost if it's never used! Just think about how much time you have in your life before it's over, a bit gruesome, but also telling that it's very precious! If you spend it worrying about ruining a
Where I Get My Art References
A common situation us artists often find ourselves in is—where in the world can we get references or resources for our artworks? As artists, it's our responsibility to make sure whatever references and resources we're using is done so legally. It's time to go outside of Google Images! I've compiled a list of my go-to places for stock photos, textures, backgrounds, and more! All of which are free or cheap, and CC licensed. While quite a few of my favorite places to get resources hasn’t changed much since this video, I figure I’d share a more up-to-date list of places I get my references and resources from. Pixabay and Unsplash are fantastic free websites that I absolutely recommend taking advantage of! They have thousands upon thousands of high quality photos, be they just for anatomy or bare bones referencing, or full on projects. They also have textures or other digital elements to use in your artworks as well. I definitely visit these two sites multiple times a week, bloating up
